'Piano Man' teaches instant workshops next week

"Piano Man" David Haynes will teach music courses Jan. 23 at Coastal Carolina University's campus and Jan. 24 at the Waccamaw Higher Education Center as part of Coastal Carolina University's Lifelong Learning program. Students will have the opportunity to learn to read music in two hours and to play the piano in three and a half hours. The following courses are scheduled:

Music Reading for Total Beginners: Ever want to play a musical instrument but never had a lesson? Quickly learn all the basic reading skills needed for playing and reading music. This course is an introduction to the music theory needed for a beginner to play any instrument. The fundamentals of the piano keyboard will also be taught. Designed for the complete beginner, this course is essential if you have no musical background and wish to take the Instant Piano workshop later. It is a good starting point for future traditional music lessons. This workshop is designed by David Haynes, the creator of the highly acclaimed Instant Piano workshop, which has taught hundreds of thousands to play piano in one day since 1981. Fee $30+ $15 for booklet and CD to be collected in class by the instructor.

Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People: If you yearn to experience the joy of playing piano, but you don't want years of weekly lessons, this beginners' class in chord piano techniques is for you. David Haynes, with over 30 years' experience, will teach enough secrets of the trade to make piano playing a part of life. The chords needed to play any pop song, style or key will be taught. If you can find middle C and know the meaning of "Every Good Boy Does Fine," you already know enough to enroll in this workshop. Fee: $50+ $25 for booklet and CD to be collected in class by the instructor.
