Bracewell to perform at CCU community awareness event

Coastal Carolina University will host "BracedWell: Uniting Our Community Against Gender Violence" on Friday, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Coastal's Prince Lawn, featuring nationally acclaimed, singer/songwriter Lorna Bracewell. This community awareness event, which is free and open to the public, is designed to raise consciousness and involvement in community issues.

Representatives from different community service agencies will set-up information booths. Participating organizations include Myrtle Beach Rape Crisis Center, Helping Hand, Citizens Against Spouse Abuse, Shoreline Behavioral Services, the United Way, Children's Rehabilitation Services and others.

Bracewell, an outspoken activist for community advocacy, will perform selections from her new CD, "Flowers on the Chains." A native and resident of Florida, she has been performing since age 13 and has performed to more than 700 audiences. She earned her bachelor's degree from Flagler College, Florida.

This event is sponsored by Upsilon Eta, the communication major honor society; the Office of Student Activities and Leadership, CCU's Student Government Association; the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, Department of English, Communication and Journalism; and the Women's and Gender Studies Program.
