CCU presents Gershwin's 'Crazy for You'

April 3, 2007

Coastal Carolina University Theater will present the award-winning musical "Crazy For You" from Wednesday, April 11 to Sunday, April 15 in Wheelwright Auditorium. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

General admission is $12 and $8 for alumni and senior citizens.

A backstage musical based on a 1930 show by George and Ira Gershwin, "Crazy for You" is about a young stage-struck banker, Bobby Child, who is sent to foreclose on a small town theater in Deadrock, Nevada. He falls in love with the theater owner's daughter and helps put on a show to save the business. Filled with such famous Gershwin tunes as "I Got Rhythm" and "Embraceable You," the production stars Trey Gerald, a musical theater major from Columbia, as Bobby, and Caitlyn Pollock of Germantown, Md., as Polly Baker.

Other students are Frances Farrar, Kirk Johnson, Joe Rosko, Dominic Sellers, Brandy Ward, Brian Robinson, Christen Eason, Johan Bowles and Collin Rogers. The entire cast includes more than 30 students.

The production is directed by Greg London, an assistant professor of theater at Coastal. London earned a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in contemporary performance from Arizona State University. London, who specializes in both acting and directing, has performed locally, nationally and abroad.
