CCU choral concert honors composer Randall Thompson

  Coastal Carolina University's Concert Choir
The Coastal Carolina University's Concert and Chamber Choirs will present a spring concert featuring the work of composer Randall Thompson on Thursday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium, under the direction of Coastal professor Terri Sinclair. The event is $8 for general admission and $6 for Coastal alumni and senior citizens. Coastal students, faculty and staff are allowed free tickets with a CCU ID.

Thompson (1899-1984) is best known for his choral music. He composed three symphonies as well as the operas "Solomon and Balkis" and "The Nativity According to St. Luke." Also a gifted teacher, Thompson was on the music faculty at Harvard University, where Samuel Adler and Leonard Bernstein were his pupils.

The CCU choirs will perform selections from "Peaceable Kingdom" and "Testament of Freedom," two of Thompson's major choral works. "Frostiana," a choral setting of poems by Robert Frost, will also be presented.

Sinclair is the director of choral activities at Coastal. She earned a bachelor's degree in piano performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a master's degree in choral conducting from Florida State University, and a doctorate in choral conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Tickets for the performance may be picked up from Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 90 minutes prior to the performance. For more information call the Wheelwright Box Office at 349-2502.
