Staff Excellence Awards presented

Jody Davis and Bertha Fladger are the recipients of Coastal Carolina University's 2006-2007 Staff Excellence Awards. The awards are presented annually to recognize exceptional non-faculty university employees.

Davis received the Staff Excellence Award for Professional Staff. He is director of campus recreation in the Office of Campus Recreation and Intramurals, as well as coach of the women's tennis team. A native of Conway, Davis joined the Coastal staff in 1992. Under his leadership, campus recreation participation rates have increased 10 to 15 percent each year. In 2006 Davis was named the South Carolina Coach of the Year by the United States Tennis Association. He earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary from USC-Coastal Carolina College and a master's degree in education from the Citadel.

Fladger received the Staff Excellence Award for Support Staff. She is administrative specialist in Coastal's Office of Multicultural Student Services. A native and resident of Marion, Fladger joined the Coastal staff in 2005. She is advisor to Coastal's chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc. sorority and is involved with many other student organizations. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Coker College and a master's degree in human resources development from Webster University.

Others who were nominated for the support staff award were: Kelli Barker, AraLeigh Beam, Patricia Brennan, Lynne Brock, Ken and Donna Capps, Stephanie Freeman, Nyoka Hucks, Paul Lempert, Charlotte Lewis, Wanda Lewis, Sandy Ridenour and Tyrone Smith.

Professional staff award nominees were Shrinivas Chabba, Bob Full, Karen Fuss, Robert Lundgren, Rick Matthews and Jennifer Silver.
