Coastal student wins poetry contest

  Winning poet Brandon Wolf
Brandon J. Wolf of Toms River, N.J., has been named the winner of the third annual Paul Rice Poetry Broadside Series at Coastal Carolina University for his poem "Living in the Days of Noah." Sponsored by Coastal's Department of English, the competition is open to CCU students. It honors the memory of the late Paul Rice, a poet, CCU English professor and songwriter who died in 2004.

Wolf, a rising senior, is an English major. He is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, Coastal's English honor society, and a staff member of Archarios, the literary/art magazine on campus. He is the son of Cathy and Joseph Wolf of Toms River.

More than 35 entries were submitted. Wolf will receive a $100 gift certificate to the CCU bookstore and 25 copies of his poem on broadside, which will be produced in an edition of 100 numbered copies. Broadside is a large piece of paper printed, usually elegantly, on one side; it is also called broadsheet.

Honorable mentions were awarded to Sandra Broughton Causey's "Nova" and Nicole Stephens's "I Speak."
