Poet professor to read from new book at CCU

Award-winning poet Dan Albergotti will read from his acclaimed collection of poems, "The Boatloads," at Coastal Carolina University on Thursday, April 10 at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The reading will be in the Wall Auditorium of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business. It is part of the Words to Say It Visiting Writers Series, which is sponsored by the Department of English.

"The Boatloads" won the 2007 A. Poulin Jr. Poetry Prize and will be published in March 2008. Albergotti's poems have appeared in the Cincinnati Review, Mid-American Review, Shenandoah, The Southern Review, The Virginia Quarterly Review and other journals. His chapbook, "Charon's Manifest," won the 2005 Randall Jarrell/Harperprints Chapbook Competition, as well.

Albergotti, an assistant professor of English and coordinator of creative writing, joined CCU in 2005. He earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in English from Clemson University and a doctorate in English from the University of South Carolina. He has been a scholar at the Sewanee and Bread Loaf writer's conferences and a fellow at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts.

Albergotti is currently the poetry editor for the online quarterly literary magazine, "storySouth."

He was recently invited to participate in the Virginia Festival for the Book held annually in Charlottesville, Va.
