Coastal Carolina University presents Bankston in concert

September 22, 2008

David Bankston, associate professor of music at Coastal Carolina University, will perform in concert on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

During the program, he will perform original songs as well as beloved standards from the American songbook. Special musical guests will include Coastal Carolina University's Artist in Residence Steve Bailey, an internationally acclaimed bassist.

Bankston has performed extensively in opera and musical theater, including leading roles in companies such as the Houston Grand Opera, Washington Opera, and New Orleans Opera. Folk, pop and rock music were his first loves, however. He began playing the guitar at age 15, and by age 17, singing professionally. His autobiographical CD "Galvez Town" was named one of the "10 Best CDs of 2002" by The Sun News.
