Writer Barry to read at Coastal Carolina University

Writer Rebecca Barry will give a reading from her works on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University. The event is free and open to the public.

The reading, which will be held in Wall Auditorium, is part of the Words to Say It Visiting Writers Series, which is supported by the Department of English.

Barry lives in upstate New York. Her first book, "Later, at the Bar: A Novel in Stories," was a New York Times Editor's Choice and a New York Times Notable Book, and was short-listed for The Story Prize. Her debut work of fiction, "Later, at the Bar" offers 10 interconnected stories that follow the regulars of a small-town bar called Lucy's Tavern, set in upstate New York.

Her nonfiction has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post Magazine, Seventeen, Details and The Best American Travel Writing 2003. Her fiction has appeared in Ploughshares, One Story, Tin House, Ecotone, The Mid-American Review and Best New American Voices 2005. She is currently working on a novel and writing a blog called The Main Street Diaries.

Barry will sign her book, which will be available for sale, during a reception after the reading.
