Coastal Carolina University presents Jazz After Hours

Coastal Carolina University's Jazz After Hours Big Band will perform a concert on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium.

General admission is $9; seniors and alumni, $7; Coastal Carolina University and Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) students, one free ticket per valid ID; Coastal Carolina University and HGTC faculty and staff, two free tickets per valid ID; teens and children, free with ticket.

Coastal Carolina University's jazz music ensemble will perform music from the Swing era, as well as new arrangements of classical songs. The concert will feature works by Dave Brubeck, Horace Silver, Duke Ellington and Harold Arlen. The concert will also include jazz music from Coastal Carolina University's After Hours Improvisation Combo, and student soloists will be highlighted throughout the evening. Styles range from traditional blues, swing and ballad numbers to exciting Latin arrangements of popular songs and a mambo arrangement of the classic "C-Jam Blues."

Dan O'Reilly, instructor of music at Coastal Carolina University, is the director of the groups. He has extensive performing experience both in New York City and along the Grand Strand at venues such as the House of Blues, Broadway at the Beach, the Palace Theatre and Brookgreen Gardens. O'Reilly also directs the University's Saxophone Ensemble and POP 101, a contemporary student music ensemble.
