Coastal Carolina University board votes to limit tuition

Coastal Carolina University's Board of Trustees has voted to limit possible tuition increases for the 2009-2010 academic year to no more than 4 percent for in-state students and 4.4 percent for out-of-state students. Tuition rates for the University's 2009-2010 academic year will not be determined until after the state budget is approved.

The board also approved new bachelor's degree programs in economics, graphic design and nursing as well as master's degree programs in writing and in education leadership. The new degree programs must be approved by the state Commission on Higher Education before being implemented.

The board also voted to increase student board or meal fees by 4.1 percent, from $1,225 to $1,275 per semester, a $50 increase. Housing fees will also increase. Fees for students who live in double or three-person suites will increase $10, from $2,315 to $2,325 per semester. Fees for students who have private rooms will increase $225, from $2,315 to $2,540 per semester. Student parking fees will increase from $25 to $50 per year.

The board voted to explore the establishment of the International Beach Music Hall of Fame to be housed at Coastal Carolina University.

The board voted to name the future science building annex Kenneth E. Swain Hall. The academic area for student-athletes in the Adkins Field House, now under construction, will be named the Will Garland Academic Enhancement Center.

Coastal Carolina University's Board of Trustees also approved recommendations for faculty promotions and tenure:

- Albert Taylor has been promoted to professor of marketing with tenure.

- David Bankston has been promoted to professor of music.

- Taylor Damonte has been promoted to professor of resort tourism management.

- Darla Domke-Damonte has been promoted to professor of management.

- Varavut Limpasuvan has been promoted to professor of physics.

- Greg Martel, associate professor of exercise and sport science, has been granted tenure.

- Dan Albergotti has been promoted to associate professor of English with tenure.

- Richard Costner has been promoted to associate professor of education with tenure.

- Patti Edwards has been promoted to associate professor of music with tenure.

- Menassie Ephrem has been promoted to associate professor of mathematics with tenure.

- Eliza Glaze has been promoted to associate professor of history with tenure.

- Andrew Incognito has been promoted to associate professor of mathematics with tenure.

- Richard Martin has been promoted to associate professor of management with tenure.

- John Mortimer has been promoted to associate professor of accounting with tenure.

- Barbara Ritter has been promoted to associate professor of management with tenure.

- Sherer Royce has been promoted to associate professor of health promotion with tenure.

- Darlene Slusher has been promoted to associate professor of chemistry with tenure.

- James Solazzo has been promoted to associate professor of mathematics with tenure.

- John Stamey has been promoted to associate professor of computer science with tenure.

- Sophia Tan has been promoted to associate professor of education with tenure.

- Maria Torres has been promoted to associate professor of Spanish with tenure.

- Yoav Wachsman has been promoted to associate professor of economics with tenure.
