Retirees Group established for University faculty, staff

May 27, 2009

The Retirees Group, an organization for retired faculty and staff members of Coastal Carolina University, has been established. The purpose of the new group, which is an extension of the University's Emeritus Faculty group, is to maintain contact and communication between the University and all retired employees, both faculty and staff.

The Retirees Group is the brainchild of Bob Squatriglia, vice president emeritus of student affairs, who envisioned an informal organization that would embrace both faculty and staff retirees.

"Coastal Carolina University faculty and staff who retire after accruing 10 or more years of service automatically become members of the Retirees Group," says Squatriglia. "Currently there are approximately 150 eligible retired employees. That number will continue to grow in future years."

Steering committee members Stella Cooper, Chris Martin, Brenda Sawyer, Glenda Sweet, Pat Taylor and John Vrooman worked with Squatriglia on the concept and organized the first event, held May 11 at Brooks Stadium.

Plans are now under way for a fall event. For more information, contact Squatriglia at 843-349-2111, 843-421-9999 or drbob@coastal.edu.
