Meacham named University Counsel

Timothy E. Meacham of Georgetown has been appointed to the position of University Counsel at Coastal Carolina University, beginning July 1.

His duties include review of contracts and legal advice in such areas as human resources, student affairs and student conduct, as well as providing counsel to University President David DeCenzo.

Meacham was formerly associate university counsel. Edgar Dyer, who served as University Counsel for 16 years, now will focus exclusively on his position as executive vice president of the University. He will be working with Meacham during the transition period.

Meacham, a 1979 graduate of Coastal Carolina University and a 1982 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, was the first Coastal Carolina University alumnus to become a member of the bar. As an undergraduate, he was president of Student Government Association and editor of The Chanticleer student newspaper. He was elected to Coastal Carolina University's chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa honor society and received the outstanding student award in the Department of Politics.

Meacham has worked as a prosecutor, a trial attorney in general practice, a municipal attorney and as manager of a legal services agency. He has also served as a teaching associate in Coastal Carolina University's Department of Politics since 2004 and was named the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2005. Meacham served as president of the University's Alumni Association in 1997-1998.
