Move In Day and Welcome Week coming up

Coastal Carolina University will welcome approximately 1,825 new freshmen and 700 new transfer students to campus for the fall 2009 semester on Saturday, Aug. 15.

Orientation and welcoming activities will be held before classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Move-in Day will begin with residence hall check-in from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in each campus residential community. A drive to recycle cardboard boxes and other recyclable materials will be conducted by the Sustainability Initiative, a university-wide program that promotes environmental practices.

A New Student Convocation will be held on Prince Lawn at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 to welcome new students to the University. Michael Collins, assistant professor of management, will deliver the convocation address about a new campus program called Smart Choice, designed to create a culture of accountability and responsibility to prepare students for life during college and after graduation.

Various other activities are planned as part of the Fall Orientation program, including First Year Experience (FYE) classes, sessions for parents, a COPS cookout hosted for students by the Department of Public Safety (Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Commons), a CINO (Coastal Is Number One) rally, tips from peers and more.
