Guitar duo to perform

Coastal Carolina University's Department of Music will present a guitar studio recital with classical guitar and bass duo Dez Cordas at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1 in the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Recital Hall. Admission is free, but tickets are required.

Dez Cordas features University of South Carolina music professor Craig Butterfield on the bass and guitarist Matthew Slotkin. The duo will perform an eclectic mix of musical styles from tango to jazz including classical works by Beaser, De Falla, Saraste and Piazzolla.

Butterfield has toured the world as a jazz artist as well as a classical soloist and clinician. In 2004 and 2005, he toured with Maynard Ferguson's Big Pop Nouveau band, performing at venues in New York, London and in Asia.

Slotkin, an acclaimed guitarist, teacher and scholar, has appeared in venues throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. Slotkin directs the guitar programs at Mansfield University and Bloomsburg University. He has given master classes at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the University of Melbourne and the Alexandria Guitar Festival.
