September 18, 2009

Coastal Carolina University's Sustainability Initiative will sponsor the Myrtle Beach Solar Energy Workshop on Monday, Sept. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Wall Auditorium.

The workshop will be taught by South Carolina Solar Council (SCSC) Chair Bruce Wood, who has more than 20 years of professional experience in the solar energy field. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to speak with local solar vendors and utilities, including Santee Cooper, Impressive Green Buildings, Sunstore Solar, Carolina Cool and SolarPlus.

A Myrtle Beach Solar Tour will also be held on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. The tour, part of the National Solar Tour organized by the American Solar Energy Society, will showcase Myrtle Beach homes and businesses that have decided to use solar energy.

Tour stops include the homes of Lawrence Long of Little River, Grant and Barabara MacKinnon of North Myrtle Beach, Wade Davis of Myrtle Beach, Bob Derr of Myrtle Beach, Rick Miller of Conway, David Laware of Surfside Beach and Bob Mimms of Pawleys Island. Other stops include Spadoni Park at Coastal Carolina University and an Impressive Green Buildings structure in Myrtle Beach.
