Coastal Carolina University music faculty will present a solo and chamber recital featuring works by South Carolina composer Meira Warshauer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

General admission is $3, and children (10 and under) are admitted free but must be accompanied by an adult.

The chamber works featured on this program include "A Time to Blossom," "Spirals of Light," "Psalm 19" and "Ahavah (Love)." Faculty performers in this program will be Amy Hardison Tully, flute; Patti Edwards, soprano; Ann Benson, mezzo-soprano and Philip Powell and Gary Stegall, piano.

Warshauer is the 2009-2010 Nancy A. Smith Distinguished Visitor-in-Residence in the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Warshauer’s work reflects a love and respect for the earth and mirrors her own spiritual journey. Her music also explores her Jewish heritage.

A native of Wilmington, N.C., Warshauer lives in Columbia, S.C. She earned a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard University, a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a D.M.A. from the University of South Carolina. She studied composition with Mario Davidovsky, Jacob Druckman, William Thomas McKinley and Gordon Goodwin. Warshauer has received numerous awards for her compositions as well as fellowships from the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire and from the S.C. Arts Commission. She is also a visiting lecturer at Columbia College where she teaches The Healing Art of Music, a cross-cultural approach to music as a source of healing.
