Lifelong Learning to host “Free Week”

August 27, 2010

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Coastal Carolina University will host “Free Week,” a sampling of noncredit courses from the upcoming semester, on Tuesday, Sept. 7 through Thursday, Sept. 9.

Current and prospective Lifelong Learners will be offered dozens of free lectures and demonstrations of fall courses and special interest clubs. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet teachers and staff, learn about accessing OLLI’s website and WebAdvisor, get assistance in registering for OLLI membership and classes, and secure parking permits and photo IDs.

Classes for the regular OLLI fall semester will begin on Monday, Sept. 13, and more than 300 classes and workshops are planned for the fall term. Classes will be held at three outreach centers: Conway (Foundation Center at U.S. 501 and Winyah Road), Myrtle Beach (Myrtle Beach Education Center at 79th Avenue North and U.S. 17 Bypass) and Litchfield (Waccamaw Higher Education Center at 160 Willbrook Blvd.).

A detailed schedule for “Free Week” can be found in the 35-page catalog available at any of the outreach centers, local libraries and chambers of commerce. The catalog also includes a complete listing and descriptions of courses, which range from art and photography, computer technology, foreign languages, history and government, literature and writing, music, theatre and film, personal growth and skills, religion and philosophy, science and nature, and history and nature excursions.

The entire catalog is posted at www.coastal.edu/olli, as is the weekly newsletter, which informs Lifelong Learners about upcoming courses, workshops and community events. For more information or to receive a catalog by mail, call 843-349-4001 (Conway), 843-349-2767 (Myrtle Beach) or 843-349-6584 (Waccamaw).
