Leaders from several area women’s organizations will speak at a drop-in reception being held in conjunction with the international “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign” from 2-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Room 313 of the Wall College of Business Building at Coastal Carolina University.

Guest speakers will be Kelly O’Neill-Bagwell, president of Zonta Club; Susan Murphy-Milano, a violent relationship and high-risk case review specialist; Joyce Hart, executive director of the Rape Crisis Center; Justine Simone, an abuse survivor; Terri DeCenzo, executive director of Women in Philanthropy and Leadership for Coastal Carolina University; and a member of the Eastern Carolina Coalition Against Human Trafficking. The reception will also feature refreshments and volunteer opportunities.

The event is sponsored by CCU’s women and gender studies program, the department of communication and the Women’s Resource Center, and will benefit Zonta Club of Myrtle Beach, the Rape Crisis Center of Horry and Georgetown Counties and Eastern Carolina Coalition Against Human Trafficking.

The 16 Days Campaign was initiated in 1991 at the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute at Rutgers University, N.J., and has since grown internationally to raise awareness about violence against women, a human rights violation. The campaign traditionally begins Nov. 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends Dec. 10, Human Rights Day.
