Coastal Carolina University offers junior swim team

January 14, 2011

Registration is open for the Coastal Carolina Crocs junior swim team, open to community members ages 6 to 18.

Practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 18 through April 21. Participants ages 10 and under will practice from 4 to 5 p.m.; ages 11 and up will practice from 5 to 6 p.m.

The program provides instruction on stroke technique and refinement, offering participants an opportunity to enhance their swimming skills on a competitive level. All participants must be able to swim 25 yards (one length of the pool) using at least one of the completive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke or butterfly).

Participation fee is $100; $90 for CCU faculty and staff; and a $10 discount per child for additional registrations for the same family. Registration will be conducted at the front desk in the Campus Recreation Center or by mail.

CCU students who are trained water safety instructors will direct practices, and the indoor regulation-size pool at the University's Williams-Brice Recreation Center will be used for practice.

CCU also offers an American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program for community members interested in developing basic skills.
