Former Survivor contestant to speak at CCU

February 23, 2011

Former CBS "Survivor" contestant Chad Crittenden will tell his story of triumph over adversity when he visits Coastal Carolina University on Thursday, Feb. 24. He will give a talk titled “From Surgery to Survivor” at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The event is free and open to the public.

Crittenden’s leg was amputated below the knee after he was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, a rare and deadly form of cancer. He completed a triathlon nine months after the surgery and made it to the final round of the 2004 season of CBS’ "Survivor: Vanuatu."

By looking at obstacles as problems with solutions, Crittenden will discuss ways to keep a positive attitude when confronting challenges in life. Crittenden will also speak about Relay For Life.
