Summer Arts Academy offered at CCU

Coastal Carolina University's 2011 Summer Arts Academy will be held during June for middle and high school students interested in intensive study in music, visual arts or performing arts. The fees for the programs range from $495 to $825 and include room and board. Students who participate in the Summer Arts Academy will live in campus residence halls during the chosen week and eat meals in the campus dining halls.

Students who enroll in the Visual Arts Academy, scheduled for June 12 to 22 for middle school students and June 12 to 24 for high school students, will develop skills in two-dimensional and three-dimensional media as well as with technology. Visual art choices include Stop-Motion Video, Figure Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, Stained glass and Crafts. Field trips will focus on book illustration, museum visits and public art. Students will also engage in collaborative projects and art inspired games.

The fees are $750 for the middle school program and $825 for the high school program. In addition, there is a $70 supply fee.

The Music Academy, which will be held June 4 to 11, will focus performance instruction, comprehensive musicianship, playing techniques, music appreciation and repertoire development. Students will rehearse and perform in sectionals, small ensembles and large ensembles, as well as take part in daily master classes, elective classes, music theory and much more. The fee is $495.

The Performing Arts Academy is scheduled for June 12 to 24. Students will learn the art of character development, how to use proven acting techniques and the value of relaxation. Topics to be covered will include improvisation, monologues, group scene study, stage movement and combat. The fee is $750.

The Coastal Summer Arts Academy, presented by the University’s Division of Academic Outreach, has been designed to meet South Carolina criteria for programs for artistically gifted students.
