CCU participates in National Roll Call this Veterans Day

November 8, 2011

Coastal Carolina University will be hosting a Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m. on Prince Lawn. The Veteran’s Day event is free and open to the public.

The ceremony marks CCU’s participation in the National Roll Call—an event that pays tribute to the more than 6,000 individuals who lost their lives through their involvement in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Volunteers, including ROTC students, will alternate reading the list of casualties starting at 8 a.m. up until the start of the ceremony.

The list includes three soldiers from Horry County: Specialist Anthony “Chad” Owens, Specialist Seth A. Hildreth and Staff Sergeant Ronald Phillips Jr. There will also be a nationally synchronized “minute of silence” to honor the fallen at 2 p.m.

The roll call is a national event sponsored by NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Veteran Knowledge Community. Thus far, 178 universities and colleges across the country will be participating.
