'Education Under Fire' to be screened during COI

'Education Under Fire,' a documentary screening and discussion, will take place on Saturday, March 31, at 3:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University. The event is free and open to the public.

The documentary addresses the Iranian government's oppression of the Baha'i community pursuit of higher education. Because of their belief that the whole of humanity is one single family, members of the faith are deprived their right to be educated. The 30-minute long film is produced by Single Arrow Productions and co-sponsored by Amnesty International.

Following the screening, Edward Jadallah, dean of the Spadoni College of Education, will host a panel presentation including faculty, staff and students: Preston McKever-Floyd, assistant professor of philosophy and religion; Deborah Breede, associate professor of communication; Ginny Kintz, representative for the Baha'i faith; and Aliyyah Willis, history student. Ebony Cogdell, coordinator of diversity programs in the Office of Multicultural Student Services, will moderate the question and answer period which will be included.

This event is part of CCU's Celebration of Inquiry conference. For more information about the conference, visit www.coastal.edu/inquiry.

Education Under Fire (EUF) is an international campaign developed to address the Iranian government's denial of the right to education for ideological and religious reasons. For more information on the event, contact Ebony Cogdell at 843-349-2729.
