Airmen of Note, the U.S. Air Force’s premier jazz band, will present an evening of jazz standards on Thursday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. Admission is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required.

The Airmen of Note was created in 1950 to carry on the tradition of Maj. Glenn Miller's Army Air Corps dance band. Today the “Note” features 18 talented jazz musicians and is one of the last touring big bands. The group has earned an international reputation as one of the finest and most versatile big bands of its kind in the world.

The jazz ensemble has collaborated on records with some of the genre’s top performers, such as Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1990, the group established the Jazz Heritage Series, which features the band in concert with other icons of jazz.

Based in Washington, D.C., Airmen of Note is currently under the leadership of Chief Master Sgt. Dudley Hinote and musical direction of Master Sgt. Rich Sigler.

The Wheelwright Auditorium is located on 107 Founders Drive on the Coastal Carolina campus.
