CCU bands performing in annual spring concert

April 9, 2012

Coastal Carolina University presents the annual Coastal Bands Spring Concert featuring the Coastal Winds and Symphonic Band on Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium.

This concert showcases the talents of CCU student instrumentalists. Under the direction of James Tully, professor of music and director of bands, and Matthew Shrewsbury, lecturer and assistant director of bands, the Coastal Winds and Symphonic Band combine to perform wind band music from the last 300 years, including pieces by Rossini and Tchaikovsky as well as more contemporary work from composers such as Andrew Boysen.

Featured in the concert will be Shawn Copeland, a faculty member in the Department of Music, who will be the clarinet soloist with the Symphonic Band. Copeland was a founding member of Relevents Wind Quartets and Southern Winds. He also performs with the North Carolina Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Winston-Salem Symphony.

General admission tickets are $9; CCU and HGTC students, faculty and staff are $3; Alumni, senior citizens (ages 65 and over) and OLLI members are $7; teenagers (ages 11 to 17) are $3; and children (ages 10 and under) are free and must be accompanied by an adult.
