Waccamaw Sports Classic being held on CCU campus
More than 300 senior athletes will be participating in a variety of sport and recreational events including archery, horseshoes, softball, track and field events, pickleball, shuffleboard and others. Several events are sanctioned Senior Olympic events where participants will be qualifying for state and national competitions. There will also be an opening ceremony, a luncheon, a dance party and award ceremonies.
Recreation and sports management students and faculty are planning and conducting some of the events. Exercise and sports science majors will be presenting educational workshops for senior athletes on topics such as strength training, flexibility, mental skills and physical activity. The Waccamaw Sports Classic is a partnership between Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties. The event coincides with the goals of both the South Carolina Senior Sports Classic and National Senior Games Association.
