Atlantic Stage Theatre presents "God of Carnage"

August 28, 2012

Atlantic Stage presents the comedy "God of Carnage" at the 79th Avenue Theatre in Coastal Carolina University's Myrtle Beach Higher Education Center Thursday, Sept. 6, through Sunday, Sept. 23.

"God of Carnage" is about a playground altercation between 11-year-old boys that brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses and the rum flows, tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters. The play, written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton, won the 2009 Tony award for best play.

The play will run for three weeks, with Thursday through Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday shows at 3 p.m. Student ticket prices are $17.50, and all other tickets are $27.50.

Atlantic Stage artistic director Thom Penn will direct the production. The ensemble will be led by company members Steve Earnest, Kris Rau McIntyre, Mindy Blackburn Penn and visiting guest artist Jon Hayden of Atlanta.

Atlantic Stage is the only nonprofit, professional theater in Myrtle Beach. The company was formed in 2008 by a group of theatre artists working at Coastal Carolina University and regionally.

Tickets may be purchased on the Internet at www.atlanticstage.com or by calling the box office at 877-287-8587.
