CCU offers 'I Am' on movie night

September 4, 2012

A screening of director Tom Shadyac's 2011 documentary "I Am," which explores social issues of being, will be shown on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. on Coastal Carolina University's Prince Lawn. The movie is free and open to the public.

Shadyac is the director of "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "Bruce Almighty," "Liar Liar" and "The Nutty Professor." After a cycling accident left him incapacitated, Shadyac did some soul searching on how he as an individual, and we as a race, could improve the way we live and work in the world.

In "I Am," Shadyac asks the questions, "What is wrong with our world and what can we do about it?" In an attempt to answer this inquiry, the director travelled across the globe, interviewing men and women from various schools of science, faith, philosophy and academia. A discussion on the ethical themes presented in the film will follow the showing.

This movie night is co-sponsored by the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values, the Office of International Programs and Services, and the CCU Philosophy Club.
