Coastal Carolina University will celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting the Hispanic Heritage Series from Oct. 3 to 17. This annual series, hosted by CCU's Office of Multicultural Student Services, celebrates the culture, heritage, music and contributions of people of Hispanic descent. All events are free and open to the public.

The salsa band "Sajaso" which stands for salsa, jazz and soul, will perform Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. at the James J. Johnson Auditorium (formerly Wall Auditorium). The band, originally from North Carolina, provides quality Latin music comparable to music found in New York, Florida, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

"Dancing for the Dream" featuring various styles of Latino dancing, begins Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. on Prince Lawn. This event is sponsored by F.U.R.I.A. (Familia Unida con Respeto Igualdad y Amor, which means Family United with Respect Equality and Love), a CCU student Hispanic group. The event will raise awareness for the Dream Act, a proposed legislation bill that would establish residency to certain undocumented residents in the United States.

The last event of the series will feature Juan Izaguirre, director of Multicultural Affairs at Florida Atlantic University. Izaguirre will host "Yo Sueño" on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration located at 119 Chanticleer Drive East, Conway. Izaguirre will discuss the goals, aspirations and heritage of Latinos in America.
