The Falconaires to perform on Oct. 16

The United States Air Force Big Band Jazz group The Falconaires will perform a concert at Coastal Carolina University's Wheelwright Auditorium on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Attendance is free, but a ticket is required.

Lieutenant Colonel Donald E. Schofield Jr., commander and conductor of the USAF Academy Band, will lead the 18-piece ensemble through a performance of traditional big band jazz tunes. The band performs concerts annually in an effort to promote public education and Academy awareness throughout the United States, as well as perform on a world-class level. Their most recent CD was released in 2010, titled "Sharing the Freedom."

The Falconaires have brought the sounds of big band jazz to audiences for more than 50 years. Its members consist of active duty Air Force members who are also full-time musicians. The band performs music from the past to the present, as well as original compositions of its members. The USAF Academy Band appears on behalf of Lieutenant General Mike Gould, superintendent of the USAF Academy. All performances given by the band are free and open to the public.
