Foreign language students inducted into honor society

Twenty-seven Coastal Carolina University students were inducted into the university's Gamma Psi chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma, a national honor society for foreign language students, on April 4, 2000.

Alpha Mu Gamma, founded on the campus of Los Angeles Community College in 1931, is designed to enhance the study of foreign languages and reward students who excel in their chosen language.

Coastal foreign language majors inducted into the Gamma Psi chapter were:

SPANISH Michele Cossa, a May 1999 graduate, from Chester, N.Y.; Barry Donohue, a senior from Surfside Beach; Louise Engelhardt-Gunnel, a sophomore from Pawleys Island; Lisa Goff, a junior from Aynor; Kimberly King, a senior from Conway; Erin Linden, a sophomore from Conway; Nancy McLamb, a junior from Little River; Glenn McMurray Jr., a junior from Midland; Tracy Poucher, a junior from New Hartford, Conn.; Olymphia Raines, a senior from Conway; Mark Spera, an August 1999 graduate, from Conway; Tammy Stratford, a senior from Myrtle Beach; Brian Thatcher, a junior from Conway; Sarah Wells, a junior from Myrtle Beach

GERMAN Pippa Slover, a senior from Surfside Beach; Derek Trail, a senior from Myrtle Beach

FRENCH Ashlee Bunting, a sophomore from Limington, Maine; Garry Hetrick, a freshman from Somerset, Pa.; Courtney Reilly, a senior from Little River; David Ridenour, a junior from Myrtle Beach; Stephanie Sorrel, a senior from Rogersville, Tenn.; Adrienne Woodward, a senior from Myrtle Beach

LATIN Yeadon Avent, a senior from Johnsonville; Tiffini Brookens, a senior from Chambersburg, Pa.; Winfred Bryant, a junior from Conway; Faye Slater, a senior from Pawleys Island; Vivian Sookram, a junior from Myrtle Beach

Elected officers for 2000-2001 are: Tracy Poucher, president; Vivian Sookram, vice president; Erin Linden, treasurer; and Ashlee Bunting, secretary. Erin Linden was named Coastal's foreign language student of the year.
