Registration still open for 2013 Relay for Life at CCU

March 25, 2013

Relay for Life, Coastal Carolina University's largest philanthropy event, takes place on Friday, April 5, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The public is invite to join the effort by registering to participate on a team or to just provide donations to the cause of finding a cure for cancer.

Live music, Zumba! sessions, and the Ms. Relay pageant are just a few of the activities scheduled as part of the event. Food and refreshments of all varieties, from pancakes to quesadillas, will also be available. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

According to Relay for Life co-chairs and CCU students Kelly Sullivan and Jimmy Marino, in the past two years combined, Relay for Life CCU has raised more than $230,000.

"We're hoping to raise $113,000 this year to retain or improve our position as the third highest fundraising school in the nation," says Marino.

So far, more than 600 participants have raised more than $60,000.

"Anyone interested can make a donation to an individual, a team or the event as a whole," says Sullivan.

For those unable to make a monetary donation, donations of time are also being accepted.

"We always need volunteers on the day of Relay, April 5 from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. on April 6," says Marino. "There are events going on throughout the night, and we need help to set up for these, in addition to the event itself."
