World Music Ensemble brings Brazil’s Carnival to CCU

Celebrate Brazilian Carnival and Trinidad's Panorama competition, as Coastal Carolina University's World Music Ensemble presents Carnival Fantasy, an evening of samba on Thursday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The concert will feature the CCU Samba Bateria and the CCU Steel Pan Ensemble. The public is invited with the purchase of a ticket.

Director Jesse Willis and assistant director Josh Frans offer a program highlighting the heartbeat of Brazil, the samba. The ensemble consists of musicians on various percussion instruments, performing samba in its many different styles. The arrangements include "Samba Batucada," "Jump for Joy," "Conscious Chutney," "Sunday Morning Funk," "Tobago Jam" and "Birthday Party."

Ensemble members include CCU students: Ally Abbs, William Ball, Kyle Brewster, Justin Brooks, Michael Clifton, Nathan Culp, Brandon Douglass, Bill Fynn, Tim Forline, Nate Haun, Kyle Hutton, Joe Kleman, Jasmine McCray, Wade McMillan, Kyle Moultrie, Tim Peterman, Jose Pope, DeAndrae Preston, Emily Rebechi, Johnny Richeson, Amanda Shanks, Leanne Smith, Caroline Sylvester, Teddy Washington and Savannah Wilkerson.

General admission tickets are $9; CCU and HGTC students, faculty and staff are $3; alumni, senior citizens (ages 65 and over) and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members are $7; teens (ages 11 to 17) are $3; and children (ages 10 and under) are free and must be accompanied by an adult.
