Premiere performance of Jazz Orchestra set for Wheelwright

Coastal Carolina University's faculty Jazz Sextet and the Grand Strand Jazz Orchestra will present an evening of brand new, original compositions as well as music by Thad Jones, Kenny Dorham, Elvin Jones and Vernon Duke on Sunday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The public is invited.

CCU's faculty Jazz Sextet is made up Matt White, assistant professor of music, on trumpet; Dan O'Reilly, instructor of music, on saxophone; Chris Connolly, teaching associate, on trombone; Jesse Willis, assistant professor of music, on percussions; Marc Chesanow, teaching associate, on bass; and Bill Hamilton, professor emeritus of music, on the piano.

The performance also marks the premiere of the Grand Strand Jazz Orchestra, a professional big band comprising some of the Grand Strand's finest performers, educators and freelance musicians. The orchestra will perform the original Big Band compositions of Connolly.

General admission is $9; seniors and alumni, $7; teens, CCU and Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) students and faculty, $3 (with valid ID); and children (10 and under) are free and must be accompanied by an adult.
