Children invited to CCU to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday

February 17, 2014

Elementary school students are invited to Coastal Carolina University's annual Read Across America celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday on Friday, Feb. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brittain Hall. Families with school-age children are welcome to attend the free event.

CCU's student branch of the S.C. Education Association, Kappa Delta Pi and First Book-Horry County are co-sponsoring the event, a celebration of reading. Activities such as arts and crafts, story reading and a family viewing of the hit movie "Horton Hears a Who!" are planned. Pizza, drinks, popcorn and birthday cake will be served, and First Book will give each child a free book.

CCU students and First Book-Horry County volunteers will be reading their favorite Dr. Seuss books to children, but anyone interested in being a volunteer reader is welcome to attend.

Brittain Hall is located at 125 Chanticleer Drive W. For more information, call Cathy Scott, assistant professor in the Spadoni College of Education, at 843-349-6558 or email at scottc1@coastal.edu.
