Folk artist Jill Trinka will perform "Sing Me a Story: Ballads and Songs from Appalachia and Beyond" at Coastal Carolina University in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts Recital Hall on Sunday, March 2, at 4 p.m.

Trinka will sing American songs and ballads inspired by the Julyan Davis art exhibit, "Appalachian Ballads," which is at the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach through March 16. Trinka will perform "Barbary Allen," "The Two Sisters" and "The Banks of Ohio," among other ballads and songs, while accompanying herself on mountain dulcimer and autoharp. Art museum curator Liz Miller will discuss the respective painting in the exhibit.

Trinka is an associate professor in the Department of Music at CCU. She is also an author, recording artist, frequent lecturer, clinician and performer. She performs as a solo folk artist and sings in the Carolina Master Chorale. Trinka has written and recorded four volumes of folksongs for children: "My Little Rooster," "Bought Me a Cat," "John, the Rabbit" and "The Little Black Bull" and is the featured arranger and performer on a collaborative three-CD project -- "Had a Little Rooster," "There's A Hole in the Bucket" and "Old Joe Clark." She earned a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Illinois at Urbana, a Masters of Music equivalent degree from Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and a Ph.D. in music education from the University of Texas at Austin.

The Recital Hall is in room 152 of the Edwards Hall at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. in Conway. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for CCU students/faculty/staff.
