Coastal Carolina University is celebrating Women's History Month with a variety of events from March 3 to March 25. Unless noted, all events are free and open to the public.

The month's events include:

* Gender Equality Forum panel Monday, March 3, at 7 p.m. in the James J. Johnson Auditorium

CCU faculty leads panel discussion on contemporary gender-related issues sponsored by the Women's Resource Cooperative (WRC). Panelists include Hephzibah Strmic-Pawl, assistant professor of psychology and sociology; Robert Jenkot, associate professor of psychology and sociology; Brandi Neal, lecturer for University College; and Raquel Stuart, visiting assistant professor of psychology and sociology.

* International Women's Day Celebration Tuesday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Prince Lawn

Celebration in honor of International Women's Day 2014, praising women's achievements and exploring women's issues around the world. The event includes freebies, Zumba, a bake sale to raise funds for a Kiva (business) loan and a clothing drive for local women in need. Co-sponsored by Women's and Gender Studies (WGST), International Student Services, Students Advocating Gender Equality and the Panhellenic Council.

* Women's History Month Lecture, "Sex Pioneer Beate Uhse in Postwar Germany," Tuesday, March 4, at 5 p.m. in Johnson Auditorium In the aftermath of World War II, Beate Uhse provided sex education to German men and women. What started as a mail-order birth control business soon became the world's first sex store, changing the way we relate to sexuality. Amanda Brian, assistant professor of history, will present the lecture, sponsored by the Department of History.

* Women Empowering Women Through The Years exhibition Wednesday, March 5, from noon to 1 p.m. on Prince Lawn

CCU student poster exhibit of the many women who have changed our world for the better; sponsored by WGST.

* Women's History Month key speaker: Alison Piepmeier "Riot Grrls, Zines, and Twenty Years of Feminist Activism," Thursday, March 20, at 4:30 p.m. in Johnson Auditorium

College of Charleston Professor Alison Piepmeier describes the important role of zines in the development of third wave feminism, explains how zines offer models for self-expression and activism, and explores their place in the future of feminism.

* "Of Sex and Saints: Gender, Sexuality, and Religion" forum panel Tuesday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m. in Johnson Auditorium

Panel discussion on the relationship between gender, sexuality and religion with CCU faculty and students sponsored by Coastal Humanists. Panelists include Suheir Daoud, associate professor of politics and geography; Aneilya Barnes, associate professor of history; Ron Green, assistant professor of philosophy and religious studies; and CCU students Lewis Breland and Sixto Ruiz.
