August 18, 2014

Marjorie Thompson and Jerry Rashid have joined the Coastal Carolina University Office for Philanthropy as director for philanthropy and director of communication and marketing, respectively, according to Mark Roach, vice president for philanthropy.

Thompson is responsible for increasing awareness and support for the Spadoni College of Education and CCU's Women in Philanthropy and Leadership organization, of which she is the president. Rashid, who previously worked at CCU as the marketing and communications specialist from 1999-2002, manages the writing and creative development of internal and external communications that help strengthen the Office for Philanthropy's image.

"I am thrilled to have Marjorie and Jerry join Coastal's Office for Philanthropy," Roach said. "Both of them bring great experience and energy to their respective positions. Marjorie has a passion for education, and I am confident that her continued involvement with Women in Philanthropy and Leadership will only help to shine a bright light on this meaningful organization. Jerry is a veteran of higher education marketing and communications and is very familiar with Coastal. I look forward to partnering with him in spreading the good word about the important initiatives of CCU's Office for Philanthropy that enhance the student experience and strengthen this growing University."

Prior to her work at CCU, Thompson was the practice administrator for Carolina Radiology Associates LLC for 14 years. She serves as board member and vice chair for the Grand Strand Miracle League, vice chair of the Horry County Memorial Library system and is on the Clemson University Parents Advisory Council Board, where she and her husband serve as couple chair-elect.

Thompson is a 2002 graduate of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Grand Strand program and has served on the program's board of regents. She previously served as the vice chair for the Coastal Chapter of the S.C. Medical Group Management Association and as the vice chair of the Conway Medical Center Foundation Board.

Originally from Charlotte, N.C., Thompson earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She and her husband, Lance Thompson, who is vice president and general manager of Ocean Lakes Family Campground, have two daughters, Chandler and Savannah.

Rashid returns to CCU after serving the last six and a half years as director of college relations at Lycoming College in Pennsylvania. He managed all of the college's advertising, e-communications, marketing, media relations, photography, public relations, publications, social media and sports information efforts. He was also editor of the alumni magazine, assisted with special events and maintained portions of the website.

Prior to Lycoming, Rashid served as assistant vice president for college relations for five years at Olivet College in Michigan. He oversaw advertising, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, photography, publications, sports information, special events and the web.

Rashid began his career in athletic communications at Stetson University in Florida, Wayne State College in Nebraska and the University of North Dakota.

Rashid's work has been recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the Public Relations Society of America and the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A native of Lansing, Mich., Rashid earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Michigan State University. He and his wife, Rosie, have two children and live in Myrtle Beach.
