‘Hair: the Musical’ opens Nov. 13 at CCU

November 5, 2014

Coastal Carolina University's Department of Theatre presents "Hair: The Musical" from Thursday, Nov. 13, to Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Edwards Theatre in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. General admission is $15.

A landmark musical about the 1960s youth culture, "Hair" tells the story of a group of politically active hippies living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against being drafted into the Vietnam War. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle with their beliefs, the sexual revolution and their rebellion against the war, their conservative parents and society. Claude must decide whether to resist the draft as his friends have done or to succumb to the pressures of his parents -- and society -- to serve in Vietnam, compromising his principles and risking his life.

The show, directed by Robin Russell, has a cast of 29 student actors. Playing the more major roles are: Dejuan Thompson, Conor Devoe, Taylor Wright, Anna Sheridan, Gabby Harker, Miquela Skye Rivers, Myisha Thomas, Sydney Copland-Goodman and Grant Zavitkovsky.

Other members of the cast are: Ethan Babson, Brian Bruno, Melissa Cabey, Brianne Campbell, Sara Cataldo, Shelby Dangerfield, Christina Daves, Izabel Dorst, Emilee Hassanzadeh, Tyler Keller, Connor Kendall, Duncan Overby, Sarah Parker, Caitlen Patton, Riley Phoenix, April Pollock, Corey Ryan, Keelin Sanz, Ben Southerland and Briar Presley White.
