April 7, 2015

Coastal Carolina University professor and administrator Edgar L. Dyer will give a lecture reflecting on CCU's 60th anniversary at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 10, at the Edwards Recital Hall. Dyer, executive vice president and professor of politics at CCU, is retiring in July after a 40-year career at the University.

CCU began as an evening adult school on the Conway High School campus in the 1954-55 academic year. Through its affiliations with the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina to its present status as an independent, public liberal arts University, CCU has continued to be a leader in South Carolina higher education with a current enrollment of nearly 10,000 students.

Dyer joined CCU's faculty in 1976. He earned a bachelor's degree from Guilford College and a master's degree and juris doctor degree from the University of South Carolina. He was the first recipient of the HTC Teacher-Scholar Lecturer Award, and also went on to receive the Distinguished Teaching Award and the Student Development Award. He is a faculty inductee of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) and is an honorary inductee of the CCU Athletic Hall of Fame. Through the years, Dyer has served in numerous leadership roles at CCU including interim dean of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, interim director of athletics, and executive director of the Coastal Educational Foundation. He served as university counsel for 16 years.
