Business workshops on franchising and intellectual property will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2 and Thursday, Sept. 3 at the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. The workshops are free and sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Small Business Development Center at Coastal Carolina University.

The first workshop is from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 and will cover business franchising. Cathey Petkask, franchise specialist, will discuss how to select a successful franchise. Though there is no charge, registration is required.

The second workshop is from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 3 and will discuss intellectual property. Douglas Lineberry, special counsel with the McNair Law Firm, will teach participants about copyrights, patents and trademarks. The workshop will also cover different types of intellectual property, how to protect them and business documentation.
