Bailey to host ‘Tea & Ethics’ forum at CCU

September 9, 2015

Sun News columnist Issac Bailey will lead a public discussion on "When Race Isn't About Racism But Still Dangerous" on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. in the Johnson Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University. A reception will follow in the anteroom. Both events are free and open to the public.

Bailey will talk about neurological research that explains how our brains are shaped by our environment. He will introduce the concept of "toxic stress," how it reshapes the brains of youth and the implicating results. He will explain that what is often called as racial bias in the unequal treatment of black youth by police and teachers can result in an undetected depression in the victims.

Bailey is a senior writer for The Sun News and has been with the paper for 18 years. He was also a Nieman Fellow for Harvard University in 2013. During that program, he took classes at Harvard, participated in a variety of journalism-related events and worked on a book.

The Johnson Auditorium is located on the first floor of the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration building, 119 Chanticleer Drive, Conway.
