CCU’s PrepareAthon! Day of Action will raise awareness about emergency preparedness

September 25, 2015

September is National Preparedness Month. Coastal Carolina University is participating in America's PrepareAthon! -- a nationwide, community-based campaign designed to increase emergency preparedness and resilience. CCU's PrepareAthon! Day of Action will host multiple agencies on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Prince Lawn.

The event will allow students, faculty and staff to interact with the emergency response agencies that serve this area. The University community can learn about the dangers of natural disasters through the Natural Hazards Bingo Challenge, perform emergency response actions and try out emergency equipment. Participants can win a CCU T-shirt and pick up sweet treats and giveaways.

"Coastal Carolina University is committed to managing any emergency or disaster that may affect the University community, and this event will help improve our ability to recover quickly by emphasizing individual preparedness," said CCU's Emergency Management Director Carissa Medeiros. "As with many life events, preparation is the key to success. When you prepare and practice for an emergency in advance, it makes a real difference in your ability to take immediate and informed action when it matters most."
