L.A. Guitar Quartet to perform at CCU

October 14, 2015

The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet will perform at Coastal Carolina University on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $12 to $17 with reserved seating, and discounts for special groups and ages are available.

The Grammy award-winning quartet is one of the most multifaceted groups of any musical genre. Formed in 1980, the group is comprised of four uniquely accomplished musicians who bring energy to the concert stage with programs ranging from bluegrass to Bach. Its members are John Dearman, William Kanengiser, Matthew Greif and Scott Tennant. They use nylon guitar strings to imitate a variety of instruments and effects. The quartet consistently plays to sold-out houses worldwide.

Their inventive, critically acclaimed transcriptions of concert pieces provide a fresh look at the music of the past, while their interpretations of works from the contemporary and world music realms continually break new ground. Programs including Latin, African, Far East, Irish, folk and American classics transport listeners around the world in a single concert experience. Their 'Don Quixote' collaboration with Firesign Theater veteran, actor Philip Proctor, continues to expand and delight audiences, along with the work 'SHIKI: Seasons of Japan,' written for the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet with guitar orchestra by composer Shingo Fujii, which connects communities across the nation.

Discount tickets range from $10 to $14 for senior citizens, OLLI members, alumni and teens, CCU/HGTC faculty and staff are $10, and CCU/HGTC students and children for $5.

Wheelwright Auditorium is located at 108 Spadoni Park Circle, Conway. To purchase a ticket, call the box office at 843-349-ARTS (2787) or visit the box office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
