CCU presents ‘Brown Bag and Birdsong’

January 13, 2016

Coastal Carolina University will hold "Brown Bag and Birdsong: a Celebration of Nature in Music" on Friday, Jan. 15, at noon in the James J. Johnson Auditorium in the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration Building. The event is free and open to the public. No ticket is required.

Patti Yvonne Edwards, associate professor of music at CCU, and Elsie Pollock, a well-known Pawleys Island pianist and avid bird-watcher, will host the program and perform music inspired by the songs of birds.

Edwards and Pollock have researched several songs that were inspired by the actual calls of birds, and they will demonstrate examples of transcribed calls in music by Johannes Brahms, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and John Jacob Niles. Attendees can bring their lunches to this brown bag event.

Johnson Auditorium is in Room 116 of the Wall Building, located at 119 Chanticleer Drive E. on the Conway campus. For more information, contact Edwards at pyedward@coastal.edu or 843-349-2570.
