CCU film series focuses on ‘war and society’
Christopher Gunn, assistant professor of history, will host the screening of "The Water Diviner (2014)," which is inspired by true events and directed by Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe. The film tells the tale of one man's life-changing journey of discovery. Crowe stars as an Australian farmer who goes in search of his three missing sons, last known to have fought against the Turks in the bloody World War I battle of Gallipoli.
Arriving in Istanbul, he is thrust into a chaotic world where he encounters others who have suffered their own losses in the conflict. With seemingly insurmountable obstacles in his path, he must travel across the battle-scarred landscape to find the truth about his sons, as well as his own peace.
The Edwards Building is located at 133 Chanticleer Drive W. on the Conway campus. "The War and Society Film Series" aims to inspire discussion and offer information about what happened in society during and after wars. For more information, contact Gunn at cgunn@coastal.edu or 843-349-6461.
