CCU offers small-business workshops in Georgetown

An upcoming workshop at Coastal Carolina University's Georgetown Innovation Center will cover three topics of interest to new business owners. The workshop, hosted by the Myrtle Beach Area Small Business Development Center (SBDC), is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The three-part seminar is $25 with advanced registration.

The workshop focuses on business basics including the development of a sound business plan, the connection between business and personal finances, and financial statements and financial management (Quickbooks).

The first session, Business 101: How to Start and Maintain a Business, is from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by Quickbooks and Social Media Marketing from 10 to 11 a.m., then Financial Planning with Terry Scipio, a financial adviser with Northwestern Mutual, from 11 a.m. to noon. All sessions will be held at the Georgetown Innovation Center at 901 Front St.

Small Business Development Centers are located in each of the 50 states and are normally housed at colleges or universities. The SBDC has a memo of understanding with CCU and provides confidential business and consulting services at low costs to businesses in Horry and Georgetown counties. CCU students work at the SBDC to get real-world experience by working with entrepreneurs.
