Groundbreaking held for new CCU academic building
Located on Chanticleer Drive East next to the Wall College of Business, the 52,000-square-foot building will house approximately 60 faculty and staff offices for various departments, including sociology, recreation and sport management, computer science and information systems, and the University honors program.
Sixteen classrooms are also planned, accommodating from 25 to 35 students each, and a "grab and go" restaurant operated by Aramark. There will also be an 1,800-square-foot data center that will house 44 staff members.
"This is a continuation of our master plan," said CCU President David A. DeCenzo in his opening remarks at the ceremony. After describing the importance of the building, he took a moment to praise the two Chanticleer alumni football players -- Josh Norman and Mike Tolbert -- who will be playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 7.
"All the components of this university -- athletics, academics -- are moving forward. We couldn't be more proud," said DeCenzo.
The construction project will provide additional parking, and the projected cost of construction is $18 million.
The design team consists of Garvin Design Group (architect), Kyzer & Timmerman (structural), RMF Engineering and Castles Engineering. The general contractor is Monteith Construction Corp.
The estimated construction time is 14 months, with substantial completion expected March 2017.
