February 26, 2016

The Coastal Carolina University Symphonic Band will perform in concert on Wednesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. General admission tickets are $7, and discounts are available.

The concert theme, "Winter Solstice" reflects composer Ron Nelson's work, "Morning Alleluias for a Winter Solstice" written for conductor Frederick Fennell as he reflected upon a brilliant morning sunrise in Hiroshima, Japan while on tour with the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.

Richard Johnson, professor of music, Tonya Gray Propst, associate professor of music, and Nathan Culp, student intern, will conduct the Symphonic Band in an evening of music by Frank Ticheli, David Holsinger, Ron Nelson and Julie Giroux, among others. The program includes music from many historical eras, showcasing the high performance standards of CCU's musical ensembles.

Inclusive to "Morning Alleluias" by Ron Nelson, some of other pieces on the program are "Wild Nights!" by Frank Ticheli, "Havendance" by David Holsinger, "Amazing Grace," conducted by student intern Nathan Culp and "Harvest Hymn" by Percy Aldridge Grainger.
